The Islamic Banking & Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) recently concluded a national-level Certified Professional Shariah Audit (CPSA) programme for 300 final-year students of 13 public universities. This programme is endorsed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia under its National Graduate Employability 2020 initiative.
“We are very pleased that the Ministry of Education has endorsed the Certified Professional Shariah Auditor programme as one of the approved certifications under the National Graduate Employability 2020 initiative. It allows more undergraduates to enroll in CPSA. This augurs well with the aspiration to produce more competent and trained Shariah auditors for the Islamic finance industry,” said Yusry Yusoff, Chief Executive Officer of IBFIM.
The 6-modular programme started on 20th July 2020 via online classes due to the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO). Subsequently, the students attended face-to-face revision sessions and their final assessments were completed on 29th August 2020 at USIM campus in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
Besides these students, 100 staff of 18 Islamic banks are also currently pursuing the CPSA.
“We believe that the target of producing 200 CPSA holders annually is achievable this year. The CPSA is a testament of the successful collaboration between industry and academia.” said Yusry.
USIM and IBFIM recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to signify the collaboration between the two institutions in further promoting CPSA as the preferred certification for Shariah auditors, locally and globally. The MoA follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017 to develop and launch the CPSA.
